A RAF employee has been named a ‘charity queen’ after raising more than £8,000 for good causes.
Anne, who lives in Ruscombe and works at the Armed Forces Careers Office in Gloucester, said she was inspired to work for Help for Heroes after learning of the charity’s work caring for injured personnel returning from operations.
She raised £8,100 through a variety of events including raffles, an annual cricket match, a barbecue, pub collections, swear boxes and the distribution of more than 20 collection boxes.
Anne was presented with the First Runner Up Award in January for the Air Commander Rex Waite Trophy, which is awarded annually to an individual, section, flight or squadron that has made the greatest contribution to a charitable cause, either financially or through humanitarian activity.
"It was the best day of my life when I received the award," said Anne, who was presented the award by Joanna Sullum, Air Commander Waite’s daughter.
"We had a tour of the RAF College, a top table meal and then went to listen to the RAF Regiment band."
