High Court rejects review into M5 services' planning permission
4:00pm Tuesday 7th February 2012
THE HIGH Court has turned down a judicial review challenge against Stroud District Council’s planning approval for a proposed new M5 services near Stonehouse.
Rival firms Roadchef and Welcome Break had attempted to block the services between junctions 11a and 12 but the court ruled SDC’s decision to approve the project was appropriate.
Gloucestershire Gateway Trust and partners Westmorland Ltd is claiming the services will create 300 jobs and bring more than £30 million worth of investment to the area.
"I am delighted that the High Court has upheld the democratic decision of the council," said Mark Gale, chief executive of Gloucestershire Gateway Trust.
"We have waited a long time for this good news. Now we just want to get on with delivering the project and all the local benefits."
Sarah Dunning, chief executive of Westmorland Ltd added: "We are very excited about the opportunity to now lead the market with a new model of motorway services in Gloucestershire and to begin to make our contribution to the regeneration of nearby communities."
